For busy mums on the go, it can be a challenge to come up with interesting, delicious and easy-peasy beverages that every member of the family will love.
Trying to balance yummy and healthful for the tots and a flavour explosion for the big-kid taste buds can be tricky. And when you do find something, it often involves a lot of ingredients or a lot of cleanup. We don’t have time for either of those, right?
But we have a secret recipe to share that will make you look like a super mum. The best part is you won’t even break a sweat!
Our Berrylicious Shake recipe is a hands-down favourite here at the WMBT HQ. This drink is simple to make, so it’s perfect for any time of the day – from a quick breakfast burst to a cool afternoon treat.
We love to serve them in the WMBT silicone Grip Cups because everyone can choose their favourite colour, or can opt to colour-match their shake! These cups mean little hands can easily hold on tight. And if there is a slip, the silicone means these cups are shatterproof. Clean-up is a breeze because you can just pop these in the dishwasher when everyone’s thirst is happily quenched. Don’t forget a colourful Bubble Tea Straw to make sure everyone gets every last drop of this goodness.
And guess what, mums, if you like this recipe, you will enjoy the other nine included in WMBT’s soon-to-be-released booklet, "Drinks for Mum". There you’ll find a range of recipes – from hearty hot chocolate to a power smoothie to an ice-cold gin and tonic. It’s always a great idea to have season-spanning, all-occasion beverages on standby! So be sure to check that one out, too.
So Few Ingredients, So Much Flavour
What makes this recipe one to keep on hand year-round is how simple it is to make and how versatile it is. Each ingredient alone packs a nutritional punch. But when mixed together, you may feel like you can take on the world.
Strawberries - Full of vitamins, fibre and the all-important antioxidants, strawberries bring a mild, sweet berry flavour. They are a good source of folic acid, vitamin C, manganese and potassium.
Banana - Packing a potassium punch, bananas are a great source of fibre, vitamin C, folate, and vitamin A. Bananas are also low in calories but big in flavour. Choosing an overripe one means it will blend easier and bring more banana goodness to the shake.
Full Cream Milk – A calcium staple, full cream milk is loved by little ones and big kids alike. It has loads of B12, and potassium, and is also packed with vitamins. If you’re looking for a lower-fat or non-dairy alternative, this recipe works great with those options, too!
- Oat milk
- Almond milk
- Low-fat or fat-free milk
- Cashew milk
- Soy milk
Medjool Dates – High in fibre & protein and packed with sweet goodness, dates bring a heap of health benefits. Dates are famous for helping to lower cholesterol. They are also high in antioxidants, may help strengthen bones, and may improve brain and digestive health. They might as well be wearing superhero capes!
Vanilla Powder – For an extra flavour boost, vanilla powder is that secret that can bring this shake to life.
Create Your Own Adventure
Here at the WMBT HQ, one of our favourite things about this recipe is how easy it is to change it up to showcase the freshest in-season fruit. While strawberries are the go-to for this yummy shake, this recipe is so quick and easy to whip up that we love to swap out any fruity goodness that catches our eye at the market.
This is a fun recipe that the little monsters can help with. Let them choose their favourite fruits and add the ingredients to the blender. Let each little one have a go at pressing the button to blitz their special creation.
Here are some of our favourite alternatives:
- Shake Off The Blues – Swap out strawberries for those little blueberry flavour bombs to make your taste buds dance.
- Tropical Dreaming – Add in the freshest mangoes, pineapples or passionfruits. Tiny umbrella optional. This makes an excellent base for a more adult version <wink>.
- Citrus Punch – Pucker up for a tart-tastic treat with lemons, limes, or orange bursts.
- Berry Bonanza – Amp up the berry goodness by blending the whole berry family – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and even blackberries.
- Morning Pick-Me-Up – Need an extra boost in your morning shake? Add in a scoop of protein powder and tackle whatever the day brings.
- Berrylicious Freeze – Need a cool down on an especially hot day? Add ice cubes before you blitz for a frozen flavour explosion!
Your Berrylicious Shake options are only limited by your imagination. The best part about this quick, healthful beverage is that thanks to very little clean-up, it’s easy to whip up everyone’s favourites. Even the pickiest taste buds can’t pass this up.
