Date & Walnut Boats | The Healthy Snack with Dates for Young and Old
Over the past few years, dates have been unofficially declared the foodie’s best-kept secret.
They’re packed with nutrients and fibre, come with potent antioxidants and are an excellent natural sweetener.
Which makes them perfectly suited for the healthy snack recipe we’re going to share with you today in both a kid-friendly and adult version.
All you need are fresh, high-quality dates, a handful of walnuts (nut butter for the little ones) and dark chocolate chips.
Here at We Might Be Tiny HQ, we like to make a bigger batch as a quick fix for those 3pm slumps where only a quick pick-me-up can save the day. These healthy date snacks last for up to 1 week in the fridge or 1 month in your freezer. #winning

Makes 16 I Prep 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 16 Medjool dates
- 16 walnuts*
- 2 tbsp dark chocolate chips
*Whole nuts should not be given to children under 5 years old, as they can choke on them.
You can use a nut butter made from peanuts, almonds or an ABC spread.
Method
Make a small slit in the date lengthways, just big enough to remove the pit but be careful not to cut all the way through.
Top each date bomb with a walnut and a few chocolate chips.
Alternatively, add about a teaspoonful of nut butter into each date.
Enjoy immediately. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 1week or in the freezer for 1month.
Allow date bombs to come to room temperature before enjoying for best flavour and texture.
